A decade ago, these were the technology kings. They drove developer and internet mindshare.
- Microsoft
- Yahoo
- Sun
- AOL
- MySpace
Today, the new kings are:
- Apple
- Amazon
It’s amazing how much can change in a decade. How many of today’s kings will have the legs to still be exciting us ten years from now?

I don’t think the turnover is as complete as you make it out to be. Google was a giant ten years ago. Yahoo is perhaps even more relevant now than it was with respect to developer mindshare.
Google was still pretty much in startup mode a decade ago (http://www.google.com/about/corporate/company/history.html). And honestly, I don’t see Yahoo as a player anymore in any space other than people who don’t know how to change their home page.
